Dining Out Ace #10
Losing weight can be challenging even when we prepare meals and eat at home. Then there's dinner parties, holidays, a business trip, or even errands that take longer to run than expected. Now you're out....and you're hungry. What to do?
The Truth: You don't have to become a full-time hermit in order to lose weight, but you will have to plan ahead, prioritize and commit to do your best. Here's how:
Prioritize. Consider appetizers, bread, cocktails and dessert "extras" and choose to indulge in only one. Make all of your other meal choices nutritious. For example, going to the place with the to-die-for chocolate cake? Have it, but skip the cocktails and appetizers. Rather have that cocktail? Go for it, but plan to skip the dessert and any other extras, and make sure you're meal portions are on target (usually about half what is served is plenty).
Commit: Stick to your plan! Try a pep talk ahead of your event, "Just this one time, I'm going to stick to the plan I made and see how I feel after." You'll likely find that it was not as challenging as expected. Even if it was a little challenging, that's ok - the more you practice, the easier it gets!
